Abstract:

To understand and, ultimately, control the photophysical processes far-from-equilibrium, capturing the dynamics of matter on ultrashort timescales is eminent. Astonishing progress in the development of ultrafast X-ray and electron scattering experiments render exciting new opportunities towards resolving the structural dynamics accompanying these non-equilibrium dynamical processes. In particular, electrons with significantly shorter wavelength and stronger interaction with the atomic nuclei, can provide structural insights with crystals that are considerably smaller than any X-ray source could ever extract useful data from. It is now possible with the newest generations of compact electron guns to achieve
