Title
Amyloidosis: The Dark Side of the Proteins

Date & Time: Thursday 23rd November, 2017 at 4.00 PM

Venue: SSCU AUDITORIUM

Abstract:

The conversion of normally soluble peptides and proteins into intractable amyloid deposits has emerged in recent years as a subject of fundamental importance in scientific disciplines. Amyloids are the protein aggregates associated with many diseases including Parkinson’s disease, which is an age-related movement disorder characterized by the loss of dopaminergic neurons from the substantia nigra and the formation of fibrillar inclusions, called Lewy bodies. In this talk, I will be discussing about the general mechanism of the amyloid formation and the probable mechanism involved in the neurotoxicity of alpha synuclein.
