Structural Tuning of Ferromagnetism in Cuprate System

Abstract:
The perovskite SeCuO3 is unusual for possessing a very small cation Se4+ at A site of ABO3 type crystal structure. It has highly distorted Cu-O-Cu bond angle(α) and a ferromagnetic ground state. Negative chemical pressure was applied by substituting Se by Te in solid solution causing a ferromagnetic to antiferromagnetic state. Well known Goodenough Kanamori Anderson (GKA) rule helps to relate this transformation via super exchange. As Se is replaced by Te the cu-O-Cu bond angle widens leading to a FM to AFM. Additionally, there is Jahn-Teller distortion of Cu2+. My motivation is to understand the mechanism of this transformation. The references I followed is given below:
